About Me

My name is Crystal and I have lived in Exeter longer than I've lived in any one place in all my days. I moved here in 2005 from the US after marrying my wonderful husband and have been wandering up and down the High Street ever since.

When I first arrived things were a little bit different: Princesshay was still a testament to 1960s Anglo-American architecture, that big concert hall was still called St George's, there was campus car parking at Exeter Uni, a Debehnams at the corner of Paris Street, and the Royal Albert Memorial Museum was absolutely filled to the brim with taxedermed animals!

So much change in so little time but what I love about Exeter remains the same. It is still a beautiful city that is full of surprises. There are still fascinating people here doing truly interesting and innspiring things all the time. It is still a place that appreciates great music, great food, and celebrating its best bits. It is also a place that welcomes new ideas and is constantly looking for ways to make Exeter a better place to live, learn and work. Aw shucks, now I sound like a brochure, but really, I love this town. Oh and let's not get in to the 'town' v. 'city' debate, I know, it's a city, we have Cathedral, I've seen it - but it always feels like a town to me because I'm never too far away from someone I know. Like, if I decide to got to a gig a the Phoenix by myself, I always find somone that I know when I get there. If I meet someone new, after abbout five minutes, I find out that we have at least 5 friends in common. I love that, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

So this is my blog for the town that I love.

I am generally friendly, also PR friendly, and love to support local businesses and projects. So if you're doing something awesome please get in touch via twitter @CrystalontheWeb or email me on crystalcarter [at symbol] hotmail [fullstop] co [fullstop] uk.

  1. Hi Crystal, I came across your blog about Exeter, and didn't know if you would like to write an article (or accept a guest post) about a local business?

I have a friend who is a dog trainer in Exeter and is trying to get the word out there about her local business - http://www.triciawills.co.uk - and so I didn't know if there is a possibility of writing a post about her?
She has been on BBC Devon and other various magazines, and is a great dog trainer.

Many thanks for your time and well done on your blog - it makes for great reading!

    Liam

  2. Hi Crystal, Just wondering if you could help me out. I am trying to organise something for 1st March, its called Annual Melee Of Kindness (AMOK). I am trying to get some people together to carry out some random acts of kindness. This could be handing out cakes to strangers or doing some en masse donations to charity. I have set up a group on Facebook- AMOK Exeter 2014. The website for the charity that the event is http://www.therandomact.org/events/amok/.
Also if anyone knows of people or a project that needs help they could let us know.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Sara
